Traditional Chinese Medicine for Indigestion

Acupuncture is a well known style of Chinese medicine that can be used to help control and lower the symptoms and effects of indigestion . However, it won't usually cure any of the underlying causes. And this is especially true if acupuncture is used only for a short amount of time.

In many of the cases of indigestion, the Chinese medicine specialist will begin initially by honing in  on points  that are known to be related to the large and small intestine, as well as the stomach, the pancreas, the gallbladder and the spleen.

Acupressure may also be used to alleviate symptoms or effects of indigestion. The specialist who carries out the treatment may apply firm pressure to parts of the stomach and  pressure to the large Intestine . The Spleen and Bladder may also be treated  to off set any gas. In addition to this, treatment may also help to put off or alleviate heart burn which is associated with the symptoms of the indigestion.

A Chinese Herbal Therapy such as Codonopsis and also fennel are two more which are both commonly prescribed herbs for indigestion and its accompanying symptoms. These are thought to elevate the body's natural ability to absorb nutrients from healthy food and quicken digestion. This is done twice a day by having a codonopsis decoction. The usual dosage is between five grams to seven grams. Also as an alternative, a fennel decoction may be taken three times a day instead. A suggested dosage would be between one gram to three grams.

Well known herbs which also help are Cardamom seed, nutmeg, and mint. These common herbs are all known to have a pleasing effect on digestive problems. And as a stomach tonic, liquorice and trifoliate orange can be used.
